Day 23: Taking Care of Business

Amanda here! Today we started off with some paper discussion in the classroom. It seems we are finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we still have a lot of distance to cover.

We have FINALLY finished all data collection today. Three members from benthic team and one member of turtle team went out to finish recording temperatures at six reefs with the Hobos. Thankfully, no one got stung by man o war today (a special big victory for Tyler). The remaining five sat and cranked through organization of the results section of the paper and started on the discussion… which is due tomorrow morning (UH OH!).

The paper is pulling together amazingly. We all had a taste of relief when we saw the paper coming together… It’s not just random graphs and figures everywhere! We’re now on page 34 of who knows how many, but we’ve gotta have it all done by tomorrow. So here’s to working our butts off for the next 24 hours! We’ve discovered the magical workplace called “the library”. Air conditioning, sweet smell of books, and general “education” atmosphere really helps us bust through the analysis of our data. Needless to say, it’s gonna be a long two days for the nine of us.

On a happy note, we have all shared lots of laughs, especially over dinners. They have been our times to really decompress and chat about our personal lives and even make some really lame Dad jokes. The menu tonight was grilled cheese and tomato soup. Not many of us are fans of tomato soup, but Jake’s rendition was AMAZING! Now we can’t wait for his corn chowder on Thursday. Tomorrow we have a day of editing and cleaning up our paper and presentation. We are all hoping for more sleep, but don’t see it happening anytime in the next few days.
